New Year, New Updates

As we kick off the New Year, I thought I would pass along a few updates from around Pasadena.

If you are looking to shed some of the holiday pounds, you may want to consider one of these new options:

  • Asylum Gym (88 W. Colorado Boulevard) – This new, sleek  gym opened up in December.  They are in Old Town, on the back side of where Kenneth Cole and Le Pain Quotidien are.  If you work in the area you may want to consider their 20/10 lunchtime express fitness program.
  • Pure Barre (107 S. Fair Oaks Avenue) – While build out has yet to be completed, Pure Barre will be opening soon and joins the fast growing movement of incorporating a ballet barre into a workout.  It seems like there are plenty of options to consider in the area with both The Bar Method and Cardio Barre in close proximity.

On the food front, there is a new restaurant and cupcake place opening.  By all accounts I had not heard a single thing about Tre Venezie, the Michelin starred Italian restaurant, closing.  So when I passed by recently only to see a public notice application in the window I had to see what was going on.  A new owner is going to open up a restaurant called Racion — which I can only imagine will be a Spanish tapas joint given my translation skills.  I am interested in finding out more about this, so if you have any information, please reply.  The second food option is a cupcake storefront from the winners of the Food Networks “Cupcake Wars” and will be called Wonderland Custom Cakes.  This will be located around the corner from Pure Barre (although they have the same address).  They too are not open yet, but you can swing by January 14th and pick up a sweet treat on their grand opening.

UPDATE: I found some information on Racion.  The owners had a Kickstarter campaign that did not raise the goal amount as well as a blog about their upcoming restaurant.  I wish them all the best and hope it is as tasty as the food in Spain.
